So, we left the house at around 10 am on Wednesday, July 6th. Drove to O'Hare, parked the car at LaQuinta for cheap long term airport parking. Ben commented that after driving to Winnipeg for Spring Break Chicago seemed like a short drive :-) It's all relative! We took the shuttle to the airport, flight was on time, leaving at 15:35.

The kids were excited about supper, movie, etc. Then at about 9 pm Ben was able to fall asleep for about 3 hours. Alex finally crashed for an hour or so at about 11 pm. Then at what felt like midnight (6 am in Europe), they served breakfast!! We landed in Helsinki, Finland, at 1 am (8am there!), had a 2 1/2 hour layover before our connection to Hamburg.

Everything went very smoothly, the kids were real troopers walking all across the airport after barely any sleep. To Hamburg was less than 2 hour flight. Our checked bags were some of the first on the baggage claim -Yeah!! Only glitch was my cellphone does not work at all, reads "no network coverage" when I try to do anything, bummer. So we found the bus to Kiel, waited 1/2 hour or so, 1 1/2 hours to Kiel (the boys both slept the whole time on the bus), then taxi to Klaus and Lauren's house, arrived by about 4:00 pm local time (8 am in US). That means total door to door trip time was about 22 hours!!!
