Denmark day trip!

Wow, what a day we had yesterday! We took a day trip to the white chalk cliffs of Mons Flint in Denmark. It was really awesome! What a beautiful world God created!

First we took a car ferry from the island Fehmarn across to Denmark. We are borrowing my Dad's old 1986 VW Golf for the time we are here. Despite a few quirks, it runs well, and got us through our trip with no difficulties whatsoever.

Then we drove over many bridges and through beautiful Danish villages and landscapes to Mon. There is a Nature Center at the top of the cliffs and trails from there down to the beach and back up in various lengths and directions. We walked down to the beach first, down 500 steps! Wow, the cliffs are spectacular!

It was a warm day and on that side of the cliffs it was actually sheltered from the wind, so we changed into swim stuff and actually went in the nice clear water of the cold Baltic Sea. I admit, I only made it to my waist, but the other three actually swam! The beach is very rocky, but a few feet out is soft sand.

The kids also enjoyed rubbing the white clay-like substance on themselves.

Then we walked some more, looking for fossils. Apparently there are lots of fossils along that beach. We found a few pieces of cuttlefish related fossils, pretty cool!
Then we drove on through Denmark to the Great Belt Bridge, the largest suspension bridge in Europe, third largest in the world! It was very cool, unfortunately there were no places to pull off and take photos. Half way across, there is a really cool lighthouse. I was able to take a good shot of it out the car window!

We then drove back down to Germany via mainland (Flensburg). Even though this was the longest stretch of our trip it was much faster, because we were on Autobahn the whole way. Daryl took the 25 year old Golf up to 155 km/hr -- that was the most he felt comfortable with!
DENMARK WAS BEAUTIFUL!
