Laboe tower and beach

Today we went to Laboe, just outside of Kiel on the Kieler Fjord beach. It was very nice! We walked on the beach and got our feet wet, but it was a bit too cold to swim, though some people were in the water. There were lots of jelly fish washed up on shore.

In the background you can see Laboe tower, a memorial to those who have died at sea in wars or otherwise. Alex, Klaus and I climbed to the top of it for an impressive view. Next to the stairwell, the part of the tower that has the skinny windows is a totally open shaft. You can look up and down on it from the stairs, which is quite an eerie feeling. The photos don't do it justice!

Across the street from the tower was an old submarine that Ben and Daryl went and explored. It is a U-boot from the 40s.

The weather here has been mostly nice, but every day it has rained several times. It seems to rain very briefly, then stops and the sun comes back out, with clear blue skies again. We took a nice walk with Lauren, baby, dog, her brother, Matthew, everybody! There are lovely garden plots across the street from their house, perfect for walking. Sorry, I forgot to take any photos, maybe we'll have another chance!
